Rezulin® Warning!

Consult with your physician if you have questions concerning this medication.
What is Rezulin®?
Rezulin® (troglitazone) was a drug prescribed from January 1997 to March 21, 2000 to help treat type 2 diabetes. Over 18 million Americans suffer from this complex disease. In persons suffering from this condition, the body resists insulin, the substance that normally helps lower blood glucose levels. Rezulin was designed to improve the body's capacity for using the insulin already present. This should help prevent hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), which can lead to kidney damage, eye disease, and nerve damage.

Why is Rezulin dangerous?
Rezulin is hard on the liver. It generates high levels of toxicity and poses a serious risk of liver damage. On June 16, 1999, the FDA issued a warning that required label changes warning patients of the risk of liver damage. Still, deaths linked to Rezulin and its effect on the liver continued to increase dramatically, despite claims by the manufacturer that there were fewer fatalities. There were at least 63 confirmed Rezulin-related deaths while the drug was on the market.
What actions were taken to protect consumers?
The case of Rezulin has already become a classic example of the difficult balance between quick drug availability and dangerous side effects. At the beginning, Rezulin was one of the rare drugs on the FDA's "fast track" for approval. Then, in June of 1999, the FDA mandated stronger label warnings about liver toxicity, and an advisory committee recommended that the drug be used by only a select type of patient -- those whose diabetes did not respond to other drugs. Finally, on March 21, 2000, the FDA and Rezulin's manufacturer, Parke-Davis, took the drug off the market. Most would argue it was too late.
What should I do if I took Rezulin?
Your health is very important and should be your first concern. If you took Rezulin for any period of time you should consult your physician to determine whether there are signs of possible liver problems. Your doctor will then determine the next step medically to help you and discuss alternative treatments.
What are my legal options if I've been injured from Rezulin?
If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with serious liver problems after taking Rezulin, you may have a justifiable case and may be entitled to a compensatory award. We would like to evaluate your claim. Let us help you get the money you need for you and your family.
